Weekend foreCAST – “Showtune” and “Reefer Madness”

Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. We might agree entirely. We might disagree completely. These shows could end up being great or terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

HIS CHOICE: Showtune: Celebrating the Words & Music of Jerry Herman at Spotlight Theatre

Spotlight Theatre is presenting Showtune: Celebrating the Words and Music of Jerry Herman. Even if you don’t think you’ve heard of Jerry Herman, chances are that you’ve hummed one of his songs. The composer and lyricist of shows like Hello, Dolly!, Mame, and La Cage aux Folles (which is currently a hit revival on Broadway). This quickly-paced revue thoughtfully composes Herman’s songs into short song cycles, which showcases some of their common themes.

HER CHOICE: Reefer Madness at the Bug Theatre from Equinox Theatre Company

This satirical musical is based on the cult classic film Reefer Madness. This twist on the danger of classic teenage vices (music, sex, violence, and (gasp) drugs is sure to leave your laughing muscles sore.
