Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. We might agree entirely. We might disagree completely. These shows could end up being great or terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.
HIS PICK: Moby Dick Unread from Buntport Theater
The 2010 season at Buntport Theater beings with a remount of a 2007 offering Moby Dick Unread. Four performers bring all 135 chapters of the epic classic tale of Ahab and his quest to slay the white whale to life. Described as “Moby Dick with the fat left on. And in true Buntportian fashion, it all happens fast and with the help of little more than some rope, pulleys and fabric.” The show received great reviews in 2007 and I bet that the award-winning company nails it again this year.
Moby Dick Unread runs from September 3rd through the 25th, Thursdays – Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm.

HER PICK: for Colored Girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf from Afterthought Theatre
This is a powerful piece by Ntozake Shange, and produced by a new company who has demonstrated an ability to hammer important messages home. We found their production of The Meeting in June to be inspired and meaningful, and are looking forward to seeing their production of this theatrical and literary stand-out.
for Colored Girls… opens this Friday, September 3 and plays through September 19 at Shadow Theatre, 1468 Dayton Street in Aurora.
