HIS FIND: Detained in the Desert is set to premiere in L.A. and examines Arizona’s controversial immigration law

Josefina Lopez has written a new play called Detained in the Desert, which addresses the difficulties of Arizona’s recent immigration law, the harshest implemented by any state. Lopez has been undocumented in this country herself, and has had previous success writing autobiographical material for Real Women Have Curves.

HER FIND: Film version of for Colored Girls…, featuring Phylicia Rashad, Whoopi Goldberg and Anika Noni Rose,will premiere in early November

for Colored Girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf has been made into a film, more than 30 years after it was nominated for a Tony award in 1977. Ntozake Shange, the author of the play, also wrote the screenplay. The star-studded cast also includes Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Kerry Washington, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Loretta Devine and Macy Gray. The film is directed by Tyler Perry.
