HIS FIND: Taymor Debuts Designs for Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark
This morning, GMA (Good Morning America) sat down with Julie Taymor and U2 members Bono and The Edge to discuss the orgins of the Spider-Man musical that is heading to Broadway this season. During the interview, Director Julie Taymor gave us the first look into some of the set and costume designs for what is already the most expensive musical to hit the stage.
HER FIND: Victor Garber, Joe Mantello and other stars to read The Normal Heart in a one-night benefit performance.
Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart is set in the early 1980’s and focuses on the AIDS crisis in New York City. Joel Gray was a replacement in the original run (in 1985) and now directs the benefit performance. Garber made a recent return to the Broadway stage in A Present Laughter, after a 12-year break from the stage for a smash screen career, including juicy roles on Alias, Legally Blonde, and my personal favorite, a guest spot on Will & Grace. This marks Mantello’s return to the stage after more than 15 years, as his most recent Broadway success has been as a director (Wicked, Glengarry Glen Ross, 9 to 5 and others). The benefit reading will take place on October 18.
