Weekend foreCAST – DCTC, Performance Now, and Vintage

Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. These could be the best shows of the year or these shows could end up being terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

HIS CHOICE: How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying at Performance Now

This was the first musical I was in, so it has a special place in my heart. A revival of this award-winning show is headed for Broadway, starring none other than Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) as the show’s central character, J. Pierrepont Finch. Is it the most powerful or brilliant show ever? Not close. But it does provide a great amount of levity, bringing laughs at the expense of the corporate world (which we could all use).

HER CHOICE: Dracula at Denver Center Theatre Company

One may want to accuse the Denver Center of attempting to cash in on Twilight induced popularity of vampires, but keep in mind how old the Dracula story is before you do. There are three companies offering this title right now, but none of the standing caliber of the Denver Center Theatre Company. We have enjoyed their first two productions of the new season, The 39 Steps and The House of the Spirits (critiques HERE and HERE), and I can’t wait to see what comes to life (er…back to life?) in this new staging.

THEIR CHOICE: Angels in America Part 2: Perestroika at Vintage Theatre

We saw the first part last week (critique coming soon!), so we would be remiss if we didn’t see part 2, Perestroika, and finish the saga. Vintage Theatre is walking the same path as the Off-Broadway revival and mounting both parts of this story in repertory, which is a massive undertaking for any theatre.
