HER FIND: Baayork Lee to Direct All Asian-American Oklahoma!
No we aren’t talking color-clind casting here. Baayork Lee (A Chorus Line) will direct the one night performance of the Rogers and Hammerstein classic for the National Asian Artists Project. This production will initiate the group’s Rediscover Series which aims to visit theatre staples with all Asian-American casts. When asked about the project Baayork stated, “The setting is Oklahoma territory in the early 1900s, just on the cusp of joining the union and creating a new, unified identity in an unknown frontier. It is a time when hardworking people of the land band together to create a community, and a perfect setting to explore and rediscover what it means to be American.”
