Weekend foreCAST – Town Hall Arts Center and Afterthought

Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. These could be the best shows of the year or these shows could end up being terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

HIS CHOICE: White Christmas at Town Hall Arts Center

Let the holiday shows begin! Christmas is my favoriate holiday, and although I’m a little wary of holiday show burnout, I’m looking forward to seeing White Christmas at Town Hall. With music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, and a book by David Ives and Paul Blake, and a plot that closely parallels the 1954 film, this musical promises to be both classic and fresh, which is just the right combination for getting me in the holiday mood .

HER CHOICE: The Vagina Monologues at Afterthought Theatre Co

We’ve been consistently impressed with Afterthought’s first season (see our reviews of The Meeting and For Colored Girls...). This group tackles difficult, soulful pieces with so much heart that it leaves the audience members thinking and feeling for days after. The Vagina Monolgues should be a wonderful piece to showcase the raw talent and thoughtful direction of this energetic young company.
