Weekend foreCAST: Avenue, PHAMALY, and Miners Alley

Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. These could be the best shows of the year or these shows could end up being terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

HIS CHOICE: Mekong Joe at Avenue Theater

Mekong Joe is a one-man show that tells a true story based on the life of Joseph Hai, the son of an American GI and a Vietnamese woman who escaped Saigon and went on to a successful acting career in Hollywood. We’re betting that this will be equal parts touching and inspiring.

HER CHOICE: The Diviners at PHALMALy

The award-winning Physically Handicapped Actors and Musicians League presents The Diviners. The Diviners tells the story of two outcasts who form an unlikely and inspiring friendship. Promising to be hauntingly touching, we know that this commendable company will find nuance and comedy in this poignant story.

THEIR CHOICE: Don’t Dress for Dinner at Miners Alley

Don’t Dress for Dinner is a classic farce, where there are equal parts mistaken identity, swinging doors and cheeky quips. This fast-paced comedy might be hazardous to your health — we’re doing our best to be prepared to leave red in the face and sore in the gut from non-stop laughter.
