Weekend foreCAST: Magic Moments, The Catamounts and the Arvada Center

Denver, Theatre, Reviews Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. These could be the best shows of the year or these shows could end up being terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

HIS CHOICE: Death of a Star by Magic Moments

Death of a Star Magic Moments Denver He Said/She Said Theatre Theater

Magic Moments isn’t your typical theatre company. The company heroically uses record numbers of performers with and without disabilities to produce an annual musical production. Death of a Star is musical within a mystery within a musical. You can bet with a Diva is killed during her opening number, the rest of the show is sure to be filled with drama of every sort.

HER CHOICE: Mr. Spacky at Catamounts

Mr. Spacky…The Man Who Was Continuously Followed by Wolves introduces Elizabeth, a hapless bride to be, fleeing the city to escape a terrible war and marry a man she recently met. Calamity ensues when her fiancé vanishes, leaving Elizabeth to languish in the country cottage of his demented sister Agatha and her unsettling “daughter” Edwina. There, amid attempts by the town’s only minister (Mr. Spacky) to murder her, a camp of injured soldiers sing and dance their way through the retelling of this humorously horrible journey.

Not to be missed: Cabaret at The Arvada Center

Cabaret, Arvada Center, He Said She Said Theatre Theater DenverCabaret is considered by some one of the great  masterpieces of musical theatre. With widely recognized songs such as, “Willkommen,” “Don’t Tell Mama,” and of course, “Cabaret,” this show also provides provocative social and political commentary about Berlin in the 1930s. In the thoughtful hands of Christy Montour-Larson and the outstanding design team at the Arvada Center, we predict that this will be THE production of Cabaret to see in the greater Denver area for years to come.
