Weekend foreCAST – Gravity Defied and Afterthought

Denver, Theatre, Reviews Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. These could be the best shows of the year or these shows could end up being terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

HIS CHOICE: Seussical,The Musical! at Gravity Defied

From wikipedia: Seussical is a sung-through musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty based on the books of Dr. Seuss that debuted on Broadway in 2000. The play’s story is a rather complex amalgamation of many of Seuss’s most famous books.

We can’t wait to see the energy that Gravity Defied brings to this gem. It should be kid-friendly, but lots of fun for adults, too!

HER CHOICE: Waiting to be Invited by Afterthought

From the Afterthought Website: It’s the summer of 1964 in Atlanta, Georgia. Four middle-aged black women, co-workers from a local doll factory, travel by city bus to a “whites only” eating establishment inside a downtown Atlanta department store. Their purpose is to “test” their newly acquired civil rights handed down by the Supreme Court outlawing segregation in eating establishments.

After our wonderful reaction to the women of Afterthought in For Colored Girls… (our review) we think this should be an incredibly moving theatrical experience!
