Weekend foreCAST: BETC and Square Product Theatre

Denver, Theatre, Reviews Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. These could be the best shows of the year or these shows could end up being terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

HIS CHOICE:  An Empty Plate in the Cafe du Grand Boeuf by Boulder Ensemble Theatre

An Empty Plate at the Cafe du Grand Boeuf, Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company, BETC, He Said She Said, Denver, TheaterFrom the BETC website: On one hot July night in 1961, the staff of the Café du Grand Boeuf awaits the imminent arrival of Victor, the Café’s owner and sole patron. But when Monsieur returns from the bullfights in Madrid, he brings with him news that sends his adoring staff into a race to save their jobs….and their master’s life. A “comic tragedy in seven courses” celebrating the joys of food, sex, bullfighting and the collected works of Ernest Hemingway.

We think that this seasoned cast will hit the comedy and the drama in this compelling piece.

HER CHOICE: Howl by Square Product Theatre

Howl, Square Product Theatre, Boulder, Denver, Theatre, ReviewsFrom the Square Product website: This evening’s HOWL is not an homage: it’s a portal. A real-time, off-line, be-bop lean into the “visions! omens! hallucinations! miracles! ecstasies!” of America “then” and “now.” A reminder, a wake up call, an invitation to Howl about the Road we’ve been on. HOWL looks back to a generation “destroyed by madness” to find a mirror for our own Facebook walls and Twittered souls. Ladies and gentleman, an evening of HOWL is a link with or without http:// : a watershed conduit of a poem that is as provocative now as it was then.
