Weekend foreCAST – Curious, Vintage and DCA


Denver, Theatre, Reviews Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. These could be the best shows of the year or these shows could end up being terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

HIS CHOICE: A Number at Curious

Denver He Said She Said theatre theater CuriousFrom the Curious website: What if you were to find out that you were not a unique person, simply a clone, one of many; just A NUMBER? In this perplexing and poetic story, a father faces the question of nature vs. nurture when confronted by several of his cloned sons. In his plight to create the “perfect” child, questions of morals, controversy and science abound. Genetics, murder and family all collide in this Kafkaesque journey of lies, betrayal and revelations. Featuring Denver Center Theatre Company Favorite John Hutton and National Theatre Conservatory Alumni Timothy McCracken!

HER CHOICE: Grey Gardens at Vintage

From the Vintage website: Based on the 1975 documentary of the same title, Grey Gardens is the story of Jacqueline Kennedy’s aunt, Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale (Big Edie) and her daughter Edith Bouvier Beale (Little Edie). The musical tracks the progression of the Beale’s fall from a rich and socially polished existence to an isolated life in a home overrun by cats. Nominated for a 2007 Tony Award, Grey Gardens portrays the complicated dynamics of a dysfunctional mother/daughter relationship.

NOT TO BE MISSED: Billy Elliot by Denver Center Attractions

From the DCA website: Billy Elliot the Musical is the joyous celebration of one boy’s journey to make his dreams come true. Set in a small town, the story follows Billy as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, discovering a surprising passion that inspires his family and his whole community. A big musical with an even bigger heart, Billy Elliot will enchant the dreamer in all of us.

Based on the international smash-hit film, Billy Elliot is brought to life by a phenomenal cast of 45 and the Tony Award-winning creative team – director Stephen Daldry, choreographer Peter Darling and writer Lee Hall – along with music legend Elton John, who has written what the New York Post calls “HIS BEST SCORE YET!”
