I think that the important thing is that they bought a ticket, I really don’t care what they wear.
Another way to look at the question is “what do you wear to the theatre and does the show/venue change what you wear?”
I am appalled by the way people dress in this town – not just for the theatre. It doesn’t take much; I am not advocating black tie, but I think if you put on a clean pair of jeans and decent-looking shirt, it demonstrates a certain basic level of respect for the event and your fellow theatergoers. Exceptions, naturally, for environmental theatre productions and heatwaves…
