Curious Theater Company Presents 9 CIRCLES, the winner of the 2011 Harold and Mimi Steinberg/American Theater Critics Association Best New Play Award. Tangled in a web of moral ambiguity and military bureaucracy, 9 CIRCLES is the riveting story of the young and disturbed Daniel Reeves, on trial for war crimes committed during his tour in Iraq. In a series of nine scenes mirroring the nine circles of Danteʼs Inferno, 9 CIRCLES takes us on a journey through the post-traumatic mind of a soldier and his descent into darkness, holding a jarring mirror up to some of the most complex and troubling issues of our times.
Haunting and transcendent, 9 CIRCLES is a bold look at the aftermath of war and the possibility that one might find peace after going through the depths of hell.
“9 CIRCLES perfectly reflects Curious’ s mission to showcase important contemporary issues through provocative modern theatre, and as the winner of the 2011 Harold and Mimi Steinberg/American Theater Critics Association Best New Play Award, it also reflects our continued commitment to bringing the best new works in American theatre to Denver audiences,” states Producing Artistic Director Chip Walton. “Bill Cain is quickly becoming one of the most prominent and important American playwrights working today, having been commissioned and produced at The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Berkeley Repertory Theatre and Marin Theatre Company. Curious is very proud to bring his work to the state of Colorado for the first time.”
