America’s comic mastermind has updated his classic comedy, The Odd Couple, bringing the trials and tribulations of Felix Unger and Oscar Madison to the present day. Breckenridge’s Backstage Theatre, winner of the 2010 Outstanding Regional Theatre award by the Colorado Theatre Guild, is proud to present Oscar and Felix opening March 1st.
Uptight, neat-freak Felix has been thrown out by his wife, and the only place he can stay is with his slob of a best friend, Oscar. The two worlds collide with hilarious results: the weekly poker game is upended, the cards disinfected, and Oscar’s safe, slovenly existence sanitized as Felix gets under Oscar’s skin as only Felix can. In a last-ditch effort to restart Felix’s love life (and get him out the door for good), Oscar introduces him to the Costazuela sisters who live upstairs, but even that blind date goes hilariously awry. Those who love the original version will laugh all over again at the classic characters in an all-new setting, with new jokes, new characters, but with that same Neil Simon magic.
Oscar and Felix stars Tom Borrillo (Paragon Theatre’s Frankie and Johnny) as Oscar Madison and Christopher Willard (The Wedding Eve) as Felix Unger. The rest of the cast is comprised of Summit County and Denver talent and features Dyarl Alexander (The Gingerbread Man) as Speed, Erica Fox (The Wedding Eve) as Ynez and Genevieve Price (Happy Hour) as Hoolya, Bob Cottrell (Cinderella) as Roy, Jon Hans (The Music Man) as Murray, and Grant Miller (in his Backstage debut) as Vinnie.
Directed by former Backstage artistic director Wendy Moore (Steel Magnolias, Tuesdays With Morrie), Oscar and Felix features Set Design is by Bob Moore (Over the River and Through the Woods), Lighting design is by Jackson Walsh (A Tuna Christmas), and Property Design is by BJ Knapp.
