Check out what Town Hall is offering in their 2012-2013 Season.
Sweet Charity Music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and book by Neil Simon. September 14 – October 14, 2012
A musical that concerns the romantic ups-and-downs of an ever-hopeful dancer-for-hire at a Times Square dance hall who continues to have faith in the human race despite numerous disappointments. Nominated for 12 Tony Awards when it opened in 1966, it features familiar tunes like “Big Spender” and “If My Friends Could See Me Now.”
The Sound of Music Music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. November 16 – December 30, 2012
This classic musical is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, and features many songs that have become standards, including the title song “The Sound of Music,” “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and “Do-Re-Mi.”
Forever Plaid Book by Stuart Ross January 11 – February 10, 2013
This goofy revue centers on four young eager male singers killed in a car crash in the 1950’s on the way to their first big concert, and now miraculously revived for the posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was. Singing in the closest of harmony, the “Plaids” offer a program of great nostalgic pop hits of the 1950’s.
9 TO 5: The Musical Music and Lyrics by Dolly Parton; Book by Patricia Resnick February 22 – March 24, 2013
Based on the 20th Century Fox motion picture, 9 TO 5 tells the story of three unlikely friends who conspire to take control of their company and learn there’s nothing they can’t do — even in a man’s world. Outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic, 9 TO 5 is about teaming up and taking care of business… it’s about getting credit and getting even… 2450 W. The 39 Steps Adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan and the movie of Alfred Hitchcock April 12 – May 5, 2013
Combining a spy thriller with farcical comedy and ingenious theatrical invention, The 39 Steps is an engaging, fast-paced whodunit that celebrates the magic of theater. Closely following the storyline of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 film, the play features more than 150 characters brought to life by a cast of just four actors – all putting their many sidesplitting skills to the test in this wildly entertaining experience.
Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical Book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni; music by Galt MacDermot. May 17 – June 16, 2013
Hair tells the story of the “tribe”, a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the “Age of Aquarius” living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War. They struggle to balance their young lives, loves and the sexual revolution with their rebellion against the war and their conservative parents and society.
