Weekend foreCAST – Spark, Ignite and Off-Center at the Jones

Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. These could be the best shows of the year or these shows could end up being terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

HIS CHOICE: DATE* at Off Center at the Jones (DCPA)

From the Off Center at the Jones website: The modern day fairy tale of online dating is intoxicating, accessible, the stuff dreams are made of…but what happens when Internet dating highjacks your life? That’s what happened to Luci (Luciann Lajoie) in DATE*: a single woman determined to find love online who winds up seeking answers by talking with over 150 internet daters and recording their experiences along the way. Old, young, gay, straight, Mormon, Jewish…they’ve been mesmerized by messages, fooled by Photoshop, and daunted by first dates; their stories combine in this multimedia show exploring the hits, the misses and one woman’s addiction to finding love online.

HER CHOICE: The Great American Trailer Park Musical by Ignite

From the Ignite website: Hitch your trailers and haul on down to the Aurora Fox Studio Theatre this Spring to see the most beautifully trashy country rock musical ever written. Brought to you by Denver’s own David Nehls, The Great American Trailer Park Musical perfectly blends agoraphobia, adultery, spray cheese, road kill, hysterical pregnancy, kleptomania, flan and disco. When Pippi, a stripper on the run, comes between Dr. Phil-loving, agoraphobic Jeannie and her toll-collector husband, neighbors Betty, Lin and Pickles team up to save their friend’s marriage.

YOUR CHOICE: Three Sisters at Spark Theatre

Our little experiment yesterday went well. You came and told us YOUR CHOICE by casting your vote from a list of this week’s openers.

From the Spark website: The real life dynamics between three sisters play out in what may be the most intimate house they’ve ever seen. Surrounded by audience members, the Three Sisters of Chekov’s masterpiece invite you to join in their hopes, dreams, fears, and disappointments. Touching and heart-felt, this is the work the American theater tradition is built upon.
