Spotlight 2012-2013 Season Announced

Spotlight Theatre Company opens their 2012-2013 with Murder on the Nile” by Agatha Christie running August 18-September 22.Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 6:30 p.m. at The John Hand Theater, 7653 E. 1st Place, Denver.

Murder on the Nile” is directed by Bernie Cardell.  All aboard for mystery and murder!  Once again Agatha Christie, the Queen of Crime, has developed an ingenious plot that will keep you guessing until the very end!  After Simon Mostyn leaves his fiancée Jacqueline to marry heiress Kay Ridgeway, Jacqueline plots revenge and follows the couple on their honeymoon aboard a paddle steamer down the Nile.  When Kay ends up dead, murder is the only answer, and Jacqueline is the only suspect…or so it seems.  For also aboard are a motley group of passengers who are all revealed to have mysterious connections with Kay and her fortune.

November 17 – December 22, 2012

After slipping on an icy doorstep, radio personality Sheridan Whiteside is confined to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanely to recuperate.  Initially the Stanleys are excited to have a celebrity in the house, but that feeling is quickly quashed when their house and their lives are taken over by the irascible invalid, his many guests, a penguin, and a mummy case!  Sheridan’s secretary Maggie is the only one who can handle his petulant behavior, but when she falls in love with the local reporter, will Sheridan’s life be changed forever?

Ace reporter Hildebrand “Hildy” Johnson wants to break away from journalism, finally get to go on his honeymoon and get a “respectable” job.  But on his way out of town, there is a jailbreak, and into Hildy’s hands falls the escapee. Excited by the prospect of one final scoop, he conceals his prize in a rolltop desk.  Over the next few hours, Hildy must prevent a bevy of hungry reporters, trigger-happy policemen, furniture movers, a troupe of boy scouts, and even the cleaning lady from finding the biggest story to hit the newspaper in years!

This exhilarating musical comedy exposes the spirit and determination of six out-of-work steelworkers from Buffalo , NY . Lacking dance skills and sporting only average physiques, they vow to do something that no other local act has done before — bare it all and go for “the full monty!” But will they have the guts to go through with it? This Broadway smash hit will make you cheer for the courage and antics of hard-working men everywhere.

Started in 1998, Spotlight Theatre Company has now entered its 14th season. After beginning in Westminster, they made their home in the quaint 70 seat theatre in the West Colfax E-vents Center located in the heart of Lakewood and in 2008 made the move to Old Towne Lowry to the John Hand Theater in Colorado Free University.

Spotlight continues to provide quality and entertaining theater to a growing and dynamic audience base. The goal is to produce entertaining and fun theatre that audiences will fall in love with and their motto is Forget your worries…. Escape to a night of fun!
