Weekend foreCAST: Little Shop, Treasure Island, and This Week’s Theatre Openings

Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. These could be the best shows of the year or these shows could end up being terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

His Choice: Little Shop of Horrors at PHAMALY

Denver, Theatre, Little Shop of Horrors, PHAMALYFrom the PHAMALY website: Seymour is an orphan living in skid row. Audrey is pretty with a fashion sense that leans towards the tacky. They are co-workers at Mushnik’s Skid Row Florists, a run-down flower shop owned and operated by the cranky Mr. Mushnik. Seymour has obtained a mysterious plant, and because he is secretly in love with Audrey, names the plant Audrey II in her honor. Soon “Audrey II” grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination!

HER CHOICE: Treasure Island at Colorado Shakespeare Festival

From the CSF websiteCap’n Jack Sparrow has nothing on Long John Silver, the roguish, irresistible hero-villain in the original pirate adventure, Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Ken Ludwig’s high-flying 2007 adaptation follows young Jim Hawkins as he takes to the high seas in search of treasure and contends with a band of buccaneers including the brutal Billy Bones, sinister Blind Pew, and brash Anne Bonny. Through swordplay, treachery and musket smoke on a far-flung isle, Jim finds himself becoming a man — and you may find your yearning for adventure kindled.
