Weekend foreCAST: Little Shop of Horrors, Marie Antoinette, and This Week’s Openings

Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. These could be the best shows of the year or these shows could end up being terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

His Choice: Little Shop of Horrors at PACE

From the PACE Center website: Directed by Paul Dwyer and presented in partnership with Starkey Productions, Little Shop of Horrors is a comedy horror rock musical about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood.

The all-star cast includes Mark Middlebrooks as Seymour Krelborn, the nerdish florist who finds his chance for success and romance with Audrey (played by Joanie Beyette) through the help of a giant man-eating plant who demands to be fed. The plant, Audrey II, is voiced by Robert Johnson and manipulated by Rich Cadwallader. With Tim Fishbaugh as Mr. Mushnik, Jalyn Webb, Anna High, Kerri Monnerat as Chiffon/Crystal/Ronette and Seth Caikowski as Orin Scrivello, this is a stellar cast.

Her Choice: Marie Antoinette: The Color of Flesh at Spark

Cast includes Kelly Reeves, Missy Moore, and our own HE, David Cates

From the Spark Theater website: Just in time for election season, this historic sweep of a play imagines the life of one of the world’s most famous monarch’s, Marie Antoinette, her real life official portrait painter Madame le Brun, and the man who came between them, Count Alexis de Ligne, in a 3-person tour de force of the French Revolution. The queen is dead! Long live the queen!

  1. Sounds like quite the spread! Would definitely recommend checking out The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity. Really enjoyed it when it played here in LA.

  2. I’m also excited about The Thugs — Adam Bock’s premier in Boulder, as far as I know.
