Weekend foreCAST: Fixated, 42nd St, Dixie, and This Week’s Openings

Of the shows opening this weekend, these are the ones we want to see. These could be the best shows of the year or these shows could end up being terrible. As always we encourage you to chime in with your thoughts on our list and what shows you are seeing this weekend.

His Choice: Fixated at Stories on Stage

James Avery (‘Uncle Phil’ from the Fresh Prince of Bel Aire) reads “Weight” by John Edgar Wideman.

From the Stories on Stage website: Wrestling with one’s personal demons was never intended as a spectator sport, but in these intense tales of obsession it’s not so much whether you win or lose – it’s how you play the game.

Drew Horowitz reads “Phone Phone Gun” by Edward Hamlin and “Life Without Leann” by Larry Doyle. Jamie Ann Romero reads “Found Objects” by Jennifer Egan. James Avery reads “Weight” by John Edgar Wideman.

Her Choice: 42nd Street at Boulder’s Dinner Theatre

From the Boulder’s Dinner Theatre website: This is the story of hard work, being in the right place at the right time, talent and love. 42nd Street is a celebration of Broadway! But the spotlight is on aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer, and takes us along her journey. All your favorite toe-tapping and hum-along-humming big hit songs are in this show, including You’re Getting to Be a Habit with Me, Dames, I Know Now, We’re In the Money, Lullaby of Broadway, Shuffle Off to Buffalo and Forty-Second Street. Come and cheer on the underdog and watch her succeed!
