He Said/She Said’s Favorite of 2012, Number 4: Little Shop at Phamaly
Little Shop of Horrors, Denver, PHAMALY, THEATRE

Almost every element is at a professional level, including the performances of the lead actors. Their nuanced, thoughtful handling of what are sometimes two-dimensional characters makes this ridiculous musical really work. Nothing about this production is flat, from the larger-than-life plant to the well-rounded choral sound.

LASTING IMPRESSION: This is one of our favorite musicals, and we have many reasons to be picky about it. But this production by Phamaly, most notably Kathi Wood and Daniel Traylor in the leading roles, left us with very little to pick at. Add in four gorgeous, enormous carnivorous puppets that reached their tentacles into the audience, and we we were left seriously tempted to feed the plants, just so we could see it all over again.
