Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company (BETC) Announces Auditions For 2012 Shows:

GROSS INDECENCY by Moises Kaufman

Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company (BETC) will hold auditions for the 2012 portion of their Season 6 on Monday, Oct 24th from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at The Dairy Center for the Arts, 2590 Walnut St., Boulder, CO.  Call backs will be held individually for each show in the following weeks.  All acting positions are paid.

SHIPWRECKED will begin rehearsals Jan 2, 2012.  The production runs Feb 9-25, 2012.

GROSS INDECENCY will begin rehearsals in mid-March.  The production runs April 19-May 5, 2012.

Rehearsals are typically  4-5 times per week, evenings and weekends during the day.

Performances Thursday-Saturday evenings (7:30pm) and Sunday Matinees (4pm).

Actors cast in SHIPWRECKED will also need to be available during the day for a limited number of high school student matinees at the Dairy Center in Boulder.

 

Casting is available for all roles in SHIPWRECKED. In GROSS INDECENCY, the role of Oscar Wilde has been cast and several others are reserved for our collaboration with the Department of Theatre and Dance at CU-Boulder.

 

Roles in SHIPWRECKED:

Louis de Rougemont (male) – Any age, must be able to play an old man one minute, and a young boy the next. Charismatic, transformative, physically and mentally agile, kinetic, magnetic.

 

Player #1 (female) – Any age, must be physically transformative and proficient in several dialects.  Plays a number of characters, including but not limited to, a Captain, an Aborigine princess, an editor, a society lady, an octopus expert, a map maker, a reporter and a librarian.

 

Player #2 (male) – Any age, must physically transformative and proficient in several dialects.  Plays a number of characters, including but not limited to, a tribal chief, a dog, a lawyer, a society lady, Queen Victoria, a turtle expert, a wombat expert, a pickpocket and a newsboy.

 

Roles in GROSS INDECENCY:

Lord Alfred Douglas – male, age 20-27.  Douglas is a beautiful young man and the lover of Oscar Wilde.  The Actor must have a physical and spiritual magnetism as well as a mastery of Standard English dialect.

 

3 Ensemble Members – All male.  Age 30-60.  These three actors play a variety of roles, including but not limited to, judges, lawyers, and Douglas’ father.  All three actors should be transformational from character to character and have a strong Standard English dialect along with a variety of others.

 

Please email your headshot and resume to Producing Ensemble Director Stephen Weitz at Stephen@BoulderEnsembleTheatre.org  to schedule an audition.  All submissions will be considered and a limited number of invitations extended.  Be sure to indicate any time restrictions between 6-10pm on Oct 24.  Auditioners should be prepared to present two contrasting monologues totaling no more than 3 mins.  Monologues should be contemporary; one dramatic and one comedic.  Auditioners should also be prepared to cold read from either script.  While only one audition slot will be allotted per person, you may be considered for multiple roles.  A limited number of AEA contracts may be available and we are happy to see Union and Non-union actors.  Please indicate your AEA status in your email.
