The Physically Handicapped Actors & Musical Artists League, Inc. will hold auditions for its summer 2012 production of “Little Shop of Horrors.” Music by Alan Menken Book by Howard Ashman and directed by Steve Wilson. Preliminary auditions will be held on Tuesday, April 10 from 6pm-9pm by appointment only (please email to schedule a time). There will also be a Callback audition on Sunday, April 15 from 5-9pm. Both audition events will be held at the Mizel Arts & Culture Center (located on the campus of the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center) at 350 S. Dahlia St, Denver, 80246. The show will be presented at the Denver Performing Arts Complex in the Space Theater July 12 – August 5, 2012.
Needed are 15-20 physically and/or cognitively challenged men and women age range 18 – 65. Actors may be asked to provide doctor’s verification of disability. A complete character breakdown and show synopsis is included on page 2. Actors need to prepare one comedicmonologue up to one minute in length & 1 musical selection 16 bars of music preferably from a contemporary musical. Selections from “Little Shop of Horrors” are discouraged. Resume and headshot are requested. All roles are currently available. SEYMOUR: Mid-twenties and perhaps balding a little. Our insecure, naïve, put upon, florist’s clerk hero.
AUDREY: The bleached-blonde, Billie Dawn like, secret love of his life.
CRYSTAL, RONNETTE & CHIFFON: Three female street urchins who function as participants in the action and a Greek chorus outside it.
Mr. Mushnik: Their boss. A failure of an East Side florist.
ORIN: A tall, dark, handsome dentist with a black leather jacket and sadistic tendencies.
VOICE OF THE PLANT (AUDREY II): Provided by an actor offstage. The voice as that of a street-smart, funky, conniving villain.

About the Play:
A down-and out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon “Audrey II” grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination!
