5/26 & 5/29 Marriage is Murder at Baldplate

Looking for a fun and creative way to play outside in the mountains this summer?  The Baldpate Inn in Estes Park and the Fine Arts Guild of the Rockies are co-producing “Marriage is Murder” – a romantic comedy / mystery – at Baldpate’s beautiful outdoor venue, the Key-Thedral Theatre.

Auditions for this show will be held Friday, May 26, from 5-7 p.m. and Tuesday, May 29, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Community Room of US Bank in downtown Estes Park.  There are roles for one woman and one man who are capable of performing a lot of physical comedy.  Rehearsals will begin immediately after auditions on May 30.

The story tells of Paul and Polly Butler, a couple who co-wrote several  mysteries together  featuring a female sleuth, “Miss Charlie.”  But now it’s 18 months after their divorce and Polly is a Los Angeles screenwriter who wants to write a screenplay featuring Miss Charlie. There’s just one problem – she and Paul share the copyright on the character, and so they must team up again to write the screenplay.  So she returns to the Manhattan apartment she once shared with Paul, to find that he has become slovenly and has taken up with a much younger girlfriend who calls him “Gummy Bear.”

Hilarity ensues as this couple begins to work together again, acting out various ways to kill each other – “for research.”  But is it real?  After all, if one of them dies the other will inherit full rights to the character and reap all the rewards!

This is a wonderful opportunity to rehearse and perform outdoors (weather permitting) at the beautiful Baldpate Inn.  Baldpate is a historic property, located just across Highway 7 from Lily Lake.  Shows will be alternating Friday and Saturday nights in July and the first two weeks of August; in addition, there will be one Sunday performance – seven shows in all.

“Marriage is Murder” is directed by Barb Boyer Buck; please contact her at barbboyerbuck@live.com or 970-310-8878 for more information.
