Audition Announcement: Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker (World Premiere)
Spark Theater is announcing auditions Sunday August 26 for its world premiere holiday show, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. Based on the real-life letters of Tachikovsky combined with his music, this original play (note: this is NOT a ballet) is written by Spark Artistic Director, Michael Emmitt. Needed are 3 men and 3 women, plus 5-7 children. No roles are precast.
Adult auditions (actors 18+) will be individually scheduled from 10am-noon, and will consist of one prepared monologue and a dramatic reading of a letter from Tchaikovsky’s life (a few options will be supplied to actors when the arrange their audition). Youth auditions (actors 8-17) will be scheduled in 30-minute blocks from noon-2pm, and may include a monologue or a poem of their choice.
All actors regardless of age are asked to provide a headshot and resume.
Performances are Saturdays and Sundays, December 1st through the 23rd, all at 2pm. Auditions and performance all held at Spark Theater’s new space at 985 Santa Fe Drive in the heart of the Santa Fe Art District.
Rehearsals will be Sunday mornings/early afternoons with some additional weeknight rehearsals in November.

Drosselmeyer – a youthful soul in an older body (m, 50+)
Peter – soulful and conflicted (m, 21+)
Nutcracker/Prince/Dimitri – gallant and kind (m, 18+)
Old Marie – mysterious, of another time (f, 50+)
Marie’s mother/Peter’s wife/the Mouse Queen – reserved and stoic (f, 21+)
Nurse/Queen of the Sugar Plum Fairies – practical and caring (f, 18+)
Marie – a young girl, coming of age (f, 16+)
Fritz – her younger brother (m, 8-12)
Youth chorus (3-5 children) – mice, snowflakes, etc (m+f, 8+)
